Jewelry Care

Jewelry Care and Gem Disclaimer

Each of our jewelry pieces is hand-crafted. Please take appropriate care to enjoy the jewelry for a long time.

Avoid direct contact with water (salt or fresh), excessive perspiration, chemicals, detergents, and/or lotions. Apply any perfume first, then put on your jewelry. Avoid showering, swimming or working out in your jewelry.

When you’re not wearing your pieces, store them in a jewelry box, or jewelry bag, or in the box provided by Mila M Collections to keep them from collecting dust.

Take the jewelry off when you're sleeping.

Most of our jewelry features the use of precious metal (sterling silver), and non-precious metal (14K gold-filled brass and gold-plate). If the metal darkens or tarnishes with normal wear, we recommend gently wiping the metal surface with a polishing cloth. However, excessive polishing will rub off the plating and should be avoided.

Many of our necklaces and bracelets are hand-knotted with the natural silk threads. Silk threads have a luxurious and rich look and a high quality and durability. However, silk will stretch if left hanging for too long.  The best way to prolong the life of the hand-knotted pieces is storing them flat in the provided boxes.

We often use freshwater pearls in our jewelry. Pearls are less durable than most gems, and are sensitive to acids, dryness and extreme humidity. Therefore, they should be cared for accordingly:

Be sure your pearls don't get exposed for a long time to direct sunlight, especially ultraviolet rays; the protein in pearls becomes yellow under sunlight.

Store them away from contact with metals or harder stones that might damage them. Also, don't store them in plastic, as it will seal out air, thereby accelerating deterioration.

But don't just leave them in a drawer — wear them at least once a month, as the mild humidity from your skin is good for them.

We use the diverse shapes of natural gemstones, freshwater pearls, and beads in our jewelry; they may vary in shape, size and color. Each piece is hand-made; therefore, any slight imperfections or flaws are something to embrace as it makes the piece uniquely yours.

Gemstones can be fragile; it is best not to drop them or get them wet.

We cannot create exact replicas of any piece due to the natural variation of each stone. Additionally, stone cuts and their placement in a setting can vary.
